Each day, members explore education and career opportunities, while trained instructors provide homework assistance, helping kids reinforce math and literacy skills and become self-directed learners.

One strategy to achieve Academic Success is to create opportunities for high-yield learning activities using all programs at the Club through Project Learn. These activities include leisure reading, writing, discussions with knowledgeable adults, tutoring and games that develop young people’s cognitive skills.

Power Hour: Making the Minutes Count

In this daily program, homework completion and Common Core Standard tutoring improves school attendance and grades while developing positive classroom behavior. Club members at every age focus an hour each day on academics to become self-directed learners though homework assistance with trained tutors.

Summer Literacy

This 10-week literacy program prepares children for successful life-long learning through programming that reduces summer learning loss and increases grade-level reading proficiency.

My.Future

My.Future allows Club members to select from more than 40 activities that reinforce digital literacy, including areas of exploring the web, communicating with others digitally and building media.  Additional experiences allow members to explore advanced topics, such as robotics, coding and game design.

RoboTech

RoboTech provides Club members with a fun and educational introduction to the field of robotics and its ancillary components of electronics, mechanics and software.  Developed and led by Whirlpool engineers, the goal of this program is to spark an interest in STEM education and prepare members for the careers of the future.
Diplomas to Degrees

Diplomas to Degrees provides services to help guide Club members through high school graduation and make plans for post-secondary education and career success.
The Freshman 50/Teen Ambassadors program at the Joel E. Smilow Teen Center is a partnership between the Clubs, The Benton Harbor Promise and The First Tee of Benton Harbor designed to give teens resources to progress academically and socially, successfully complete high school, and be prepared to enter college, technical programs or the workforce upon graduation.
