What makes you feel good? At the Clubs, we believe that being healthy is more than just eating right and being active—it’s a lifestyle. The Triple Play initiative is a comprehensive health and wellness program that impacts every Club member for life. The program addresses all of the wellness needs of children and teens—Mind, Body and Soul. Many research studies confirm the connection between psychological and physical well-being. While the Clubs provide fun activities and essential bonds with staff and peers, Triple Play takes the goal of helping kids feel good one step further. Through this programming, the Clubs are teaching members the skills they need to lead happy, meaningful and fulfilling lives; not just today, but into the future.
Triple Play, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, improves the overall health of Club members by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.
The Mind component encourages young people to eat smart through the Healthy Habits program, which covers the power of choice, calories, vitamins and minerals, the food pyramid and appropriate portion size. To support these ideals, the Club has outstanding community partners like Martin’s Super Markets, where healthy shopping and cooking classes are offered by volunteers. Members are also introduced to healthy foods during fun program activities.
The Body component boosts Clubs’ traditional physical activities to a higher level by providing sports and fitness activities for all youth. Body programs include six Daily Fitness Challenges; teen Sports Clubs focusing on leadership development, service and careers in athletics; and Triple Play Games Tournaments, inter-Club sectional tournaments that involve multiple team sports. Members at the Youth Campus participate in programs like Girls on the Run, SMART Girls, Drill and Dance Team, and league sports for boys and girls. Teen Center members spend Friday nights during the summer at “Night Court,” combining basketball league play with adult mentoring and eating a healthy meal.
The Soul component helps build positive relationships and cooperation among our members. Youth and teens work closely with staff and volunteers at both campuses, building bonds through fun and challenging hands-on activities that encourage happiness, teamwork and a sense of community.
Through Triple Play, Club members are more active than non-members, learn about and eat healthy meals, and develop significant relationships to maintain healthy lifestyles and long lives rich in happiness. It is a world where laughing often and keeping stress low is as important as eating right and exercising. Every day, members are on the path to discovering the right combination of key happiness factors that will make a difference in their lives and in their Great Futures.
