About Our Speaker

Skylar Diggins, guard for the Dallas Wings in the Women’s National Basketball Association, has led a life of action that
has brought her success in basketball, career, education, and philanthropy. She focused on what made her happy, took the high road in times of bullying, and never stopped practicing and studying.  Her membership at the O.C. Carmimchael, Jr. Youth Center branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County from age nine to eleven helped to cement those values and gave her a place where she could be herself. While Skylar’s on-court focus has been often celebrated, her commitment to education and her future were evident in her early years. Known as an all-star basketball player, she was also a four-year letter winner in volleyball and a member of the school choir. In 2009, she
graduated summa cum laude from Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana, with a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average—all while taking advanced placement and honors courses.

The SMART Girls program offers young women—ages 9 to 18—guidance toward healthy living and good decision making. Through dynamic sessions, group activities, field trips and mentoring opportunities with women leaders, Club girls enjoy the opportunity to build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, getting good health care, developing positive relationships and so much more.
