CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP

CREATING LEADERS WITH THE CONFIDENCE TO

BUILD GREAT FUTURES.

Effective leaders ignite strong communities. Our young people discover the importance of serving their neighborhood while developing skills in interpersonal communication, moral character, and responsibility.

Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program. It is our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global, and integrated world economy. Youth of the Year promotes service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. The Club recognizes members as Youth of the Month and then selects a Youth of the Year who participates in state competitions. The National Youth of the Year is installed in Washington, D.C., at the National Youth of the Year Gala & Celebration Dinners.

TORCH CLUB / LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

Youth ages 11–13 practice small-group leadership and service by electing officers and working together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation.

JUNIOR STAFF

Junior Staff is a small-group program that is both practical and user friendly. It assists Club members ages 13 to 18 in exploring a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work, by participating in career development activities, discovering the importance of community service, building customer service skills, and completing a Club apprenticeship.
