Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor becomes Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan

August 29, 2022 (BENTON HARBOR, MI) – Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor announces today that going forward the organization will now be known as Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan is committed to doing whatever it takes to build great futures for young people, especially those who need it most. The organization is replicating its successful model, designed and proven in Benton Harbor over the past 24 years, to reach new young people across a broader geographical area to help them develop into the future leaders of our communities.

The Clubs are a place where every member gains the knowledge to make healthy choices, graduates from high school with a plan, and has the confidence to build a great future. The organization’s dedication to quality programming means tracking data throughout each calendar year in order to understand how to best grow and optimize community impact.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan serves young people ages six to 18 at nine locations across the region - two Benton Harbor legacy clubs and eight school-based clubs in Bridgman, South Haven, St. Joseph and Sturgis.  The organization aims to ensure young people reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible members - and leaders - of the community.

“Community change doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a process of everyone coming together for the greater good,” said Alloyd Blackmon, Chief Executive Officer. “Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan is committed to long-term, strategic planning for stable and sustainable growth of our programs.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan will continue to leverage learnings from its foundation, the legacy clubs in Benton Harbor, to inform expanded services in new communities. At the same time, the Club remains committed to providing the high-quality services the organization is known for to the nearly 300 young people attending daily Club programs at Benton Harbor’s Fettig Youth Campus and Joel E. Smilow Teen Center.
